FESOM 2. Eastern Weddell Sea Experiment (1991-2020) / TS
The reference run was published in DOI:
In this experiment, all the temperature and salinity changes associated with the ice shelves in the eastern Weddell Sea between 29° W and 9.5° E are turned off, EWS experiment, are set to 0. The experiments branch out from the reference run in 1991 and run until 2020, all model outputs are given in monthly means.
A validation of the reference run climatology can be found at https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14193354
Here we provide potential temperature and salinity from 1991 to 2020 and south of 60S.

The dataset contains monthly mean potential temperature and salinity fields from the FESOM2 Eastern Weddell Sea (EWS) sensitivity experiment covering the period 1991–2020. The experiment branches from the FESOM2 reference circumpolar simulation in 1991. In the EWS experiment, temperature and salinity changes associated with the ice shelves in the eastern Weddell Sea, between 29°W and 9.5°E, are switched off. The dataset provides model output south of 60°S and was produced to investigate the influence of eastern Weddell Sea ice shelves on Southern Ocean conditions within the OCEAN ICE project.
